Feeling grateful

Hello,

I was super thrilled on the weekend to see three of my designs featured in the Uppercase newsletter 'All About You'. Uppercase is a terrific Canadian magazine for the creative and curious. The newsletter "All About You, is focused on the loyal, often creative following that Janine and Uppercase has grown. It gives back to the community of readers by showcasing their beautiful, quirky, original, and creative submissions.

When I saw the notification in Janine's newsletter for the opportunity to submit work and be featured in one of the newsletters, I jumped at the chance. It's a dream come true and I am so grateful to have been included alongside seriously talented artists. Thank you Janine and Uppercase. :)
Below are three of my designs that were featured.

Sunshine clouds and rainbows meets the turtle and the hare

Copyright 2016 - Pattern play studio

Hi there!
I've been working on some kids bedding ideas lately. Sun clouds and rainbows shining down on pattern filled turtles and hares, and mushrooms and flowers. I've combined two ideas I had into one.
I think i'll go back and revisit this one. I do love the colour palette though. I played around with Pantone's colours of the year and added some bright accent colours and ended up with this.
Have a lovely weekend.

Launch of my humble little print shop on ETSY

Hello,

I recently updated my little shop on ETSY with some new products. It's a small step towards aiming for career independence and living my creative dream.

I've been busy behind the scenes developing some new nursery wall art prints (see images below) and these little creatures.......
Introducing...Pillowdollies. They're soft, cuddly, and cute. Pillow dollies is a unique two-sided cuddle-cushion-toy. One side is awake, the other is asleep. The pattern is very easy to follow. Simply  Cut, Sew, Fill, Finish and Cuddle.

To start I have created five animals, but please check back in my ETSY shop regularly because I'm sure there are more pillow dollies bursting to say hello!

A sew-it-yourself cushion-toy. Digitally printed illustrations on 100% organic knit.

New Year, New work, new learnings, and fun!

Happy New year! I hope your year so far has been a good one.
For myself, I've had a very creative month of January and beginning of February so far. I'm trying new pattern concepts and using different mediums, from paper collage to gouche to cut-out watercolour collage....

I've even managed to get a print or two on fabric for some mockups I want to make.
I thought you might like to see some process shots from the initial collage to photoshop repeat design to fabric print that I completed recently. I'm still waiting to see the fabric in person, but the printer was kind to send me a pic of the fabric on their print press. Excited much!!

The initial paper collage.

Photoshop is so much fun to use for making repeat patterns.

Joy, Hope, Peace and Love

What the world needs more of now is real Joy. We need Hope for the future, Peace amongst our fellow human beings, and that special someone or someones to Love.
So feeling this way, and given we're nearing Christmas and all the feelings that usually brings,  I was inspired to play with these words and bring them to life in some new designs.
No time for a full advent calendar this year. I may just do 12 days of Christmas though. :)
Joy

Hope

Peace

and a little....

New watercolour patterns for Spring

It's spring down under here in Australia and I'm inspired by the bursts of floral splendour I see around me. Beautiful blue skies and bright, bold flowers are everywhere. It's a truly lovely time of year.I've been working on a new collection. I'd love to see these on wrapping paper or fabric. Available for licensing. Do get in touch. I'd love to hear from you.

New creative challenge - #alittleart

Hello there!

I'm participating in a new art challenge to keep the creative energy flowing.
The super talented Victoria Johnson has started an instagram art project. #alittleart. The objective to design, draw, paint, create a little piece of art 2.5 inches wide (whatever length you like) every day. You can post it to instagram and if you like you can include her @victoriajohnsondesign handle.

I for one am doing what I can, when I can. The size means it doesn't take long and it's a great way to unblock any creative blocks that we artists tend to get at times.

I started with a flower so to stick with it and get some sort of consistency i guess, my theme is flowers. I could have also stuck with a certain colour palette to get this idea of consistency, but i want to explore colour more and see what I am drawn to (no pun intended). It's usually blue (all the time).

I'm also trying various mediums such as ink and dip pen, watercolours, gouache, staedtler fine liners, faber-castell Gelatos, and more recently I purchased Derwent's line painters. Can't wait to try those out! It's a lot of fun. I'm sticking on pieces of paper, using different paper stocks, and soon I'm going to explore more collage and maybe paper cuts and folds whilst sticking to the 2.5inches width restriction.

I've even got an idea about how to present these which I'll probably share later. So check back in and see what I come up with.

Day 100 #The 100 Day Project

And that's a wrap people. I can't believe I made it through 100 days of pattern designing.
I found the experience really rewarding. Very challenging, tiring at times, but absolutely creatively wonderful. Looking back now over the past 100 days, I can see when I was really stretching myself and learning. I have a few favourites from this process, and some patterns I don't think will see the light of day again. But that's ok, and part of the process. Thanks to all those wonderful supportive people for following and commenting on instagram. I really appreciated the likes and feedback.
I'm now working on another project close to my heart and as soon as I can reveal more I'll post it here and let you know.

Every day is a step further to my goal. Every day I design is joy. Right now, i have to enjoy the process and let it sustain me.

Here's day 100. I felt really happy designing this floral pattern. I love how it is bright and bold and loud and dynamic. Hope you like it too. Thanks, Julie x
